A custom storage enclosure, such as a clamshell box or an archival folder or wrapper, provides protection against sun, humidity, insects — and even fire. [1] [2] [3]
A clamshell box with recesses to hold components of a set: the full contents of the box include the two small insets, a map, and a folder with manuscript material.

A full leather clamshell box, with marbled trays. The box was lined using a "Silversafe" cloth to protect the cover of the Book of Common Prayer.
